Edward Ballo has used the DMAIC model, and its tools, to assist in Direct Ship. Edward developed a system that eliminated the use of point of use stores by directly shipping the hardware from the supplier to the manufacturing cell using JIT philosophy. This was a benchmark initiative that was incorporated across the site. The goal of the project was to replace paperwork with digitization. In addition, lead-time was cut from 19 to 17 days and there was a 10% reduction in WIP. Cost Saved $300,000.
Implementation of Manufacturing Process Controls (MPC)
Edward identified and eliminated variation to key characteristics that were defined by the design engineering team that caused scrap and/or rework to critical hardware. MPC was implemented across the business in order to continue doing business with the site’s largest customer. The goal of the project was to understand, define and eliminate variation to key characteristics. Cost saved $100,000.
