Establish the direction of the function to achieve the goals of the business. Interface with Corporate and Sector EHS leadership and peers to drive program introductions and optimization at all levels within the corporation. Partner with site leadership and peers to ensure daily tasks relative to the mission of the site is achieved. Leverage continuous improvement methodology (Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing principles) using the Toyota Production System to remove variation and waste in all aspects of the function. Use Project Management techniques to ensure project and program fidelity within the function providing focus to scope, schedule, and cost of the any task being performed. Utilize the basic principles of change management. Change management is utilized during continuous improvement efforts and during project planning and execution phase. After action reviews are conducted to determine lessons learned and the next step to improve repeatability. Perform Root Cause Corrective Action analysis for situations that need to be investigated or improved. Conduct program audits to determine program fidelity. Perform corrective and preventive actions to ensure findings get properly addressed. Incorporate management systems, using formal ISO and informal methodologies for environmental, occupational safety and health, and facilities management. Use computer programs to assist with information and program management. Interface with corporate attorneys and local, state, and federal regulators. Integrate site personnel into the business fabric, based on their skillset, to establish a partnership that fosters trust and ease of doing business. Rotate employees based on skillset and interest so that they learn and maintain a healthy perspective. Foster a learning environment that allows employees to experiment and make benign mistakes. Support employees while they are earning degrees and technical certifications. Arrange for employees to undertake special assignments that include both national and international work. Promote high performers out of the function. Use leadership skills to assist in creating a happy and successful working environment for both hourly and professional personnel. Interact with peer network to maintain a healthy perspective within the EHS industry.
